I was a fat, lethargic teen who tipped the scale at over 200lbs. I smoked, I partied HARD and I made terrible life choices (like dropping out of high school and dating really dumb guys). But that’s not who I am now. I’m fit, I’m very focused, and I am not only a high school grad, but I also have an undergraduate degree and a master’s in psychology.
I am not the person I was 20 years ago, and although I’m far from perfect, I’m light years from where I was then. Growth is such an amazing thing, but it can only happen when you truly make the commitment to get uncomfortable and reject the comforts of complacency.
We’re not all built for continual growth. You know people in your life who are happy to stay the same, or collect a steady paycheck at a mediocre job, and that’s fine. Maybe that’s you too, and that’s okay, but I bet if you’re reading this, you’re more like me. You know there’s got to be more to life than 9 to 5 routines and sitting your ass on the couch to watch another episode of Real Housewives of whatever (and hey, I love me some RH, so no judgement, it’s just not my total existence). You know if you’re the type to want more. You know if you’re the type to be unsatisfied with labels like “normal” or “average”. And just to confirm, yes…. there is more. You just have to decide you want it, and go after it.
